History
In 1992, the State of Texas adopted formal rules and regulations governing the development of a statewide trauma system in Texas, under the auspices of the Texas Department of Health (now the Department of State Health Services).

The state was directed to develop a regional advisory council (RAC) for trauma, that would guide the development of a trauma system for each region.

The Panhandle Regional Advisory Council was formally recognized by the state in 1993.
